Register now for this Friday’s Indian Art & Dance Workshops and Painting for Grades 5 – 9 Workshop!

This Friday, January 9th:

Painting from Life for Beginners
with Noaa Spiekermann
for grades 5 – 9

Workshop 1: Shadows and Light  – Friday, Jan. 9th, 6:30-8:30pm

During this class we will work from a brightly lit still-life in the studio and focus on capturing the effect of light hitting objects and surfaces, and the shadows created.  We will warm up by mixing lights and darks to create a value gradient and by making sketches that focus on blocking in areas of light and dark.  Then will put all these skills together to create paintings of the still-life.

$20 tuition + $10 materials fee, per student
(materials will be provided by the instructor)
Please bring a snack, water bottle, and a smock or old t-shirt to each class!

Two additional painting workshops will be offered by Noaa on January 23rd & 30th

Indian Art & Dance Workshops
with Madhavi Reddi

Workshop 1:  Rangoli – Friday, January 9th, 3:45 – 4:30pm

Rangoli is a folk art from India in which patterns are created on the floor in living rooms or courtyards using materials such as colored rice, dry flour, colored sand or flower petals. Join Madhavi Reddi in a Rangoli making workshop using colored rice and make your very own rangoli to take home!

For grades K – 5
Tuition:  $15 per person
or
family rate:  2/$25 (includes materials)

Workshop 2:  Dances of India – Friday, January 9th, 6:00 – 6:45pm

The dances of India are as diverse as the country itself. Sample some classical dance – Bharatanatyam and folk dances – Garba and Bhangra with Madhavi Reddi. Be sure to come in clothes that you are comfortable moving in and join the fun!

For ages 8 – adult
Tuition:  $15 per person

family rate:  2/$25

 

Workshop 3:  Terracotta Jewelry
Part 1:  Bead making – Friday, January 9th, 4:45 – 5:30pm
Part 2:  Painting & stringing beads – Friday, Jan. 16th, 4:45 – 5:30pm
These two classes must be taken together!

In this two part class, you will learn how to make your very own terracotta beads and paint them in an Indian style.

For ages 10 – adult
Total cost: $30
