for rising Grades 5-8
with Elizabeth Brightbill

Learn to play the flute in a relaxed, small group setting with professional flutist Elizabeth Brightbill. This class will help get you started with individualized attention and valuable tips on tone production, breathing, posture, and hand position. You will also learn music reading and the basics of rhythm through fun musical games.

Instruction materials will be provided. Please come with a flute in good working order. (If you are unsure of how your flute plays, please contact Elizabeth in advance of the first class for advice.)  ebrightbill@embarqmail.com. Class size is limited to four students.

Elizabeth Brightbill

Award-winning flutist Elizabeth Brightbill resides in Crozet where she performs in the flute and cello duo Terra Voce and teaches at Longwood University, Eastern Mennonite University, Bridgewater College, St. Anne’s-Belfield School, and in her home studio. Prior to her move to Virginia, she held the position of Principal Flute with the Tulsa Philharmonic and Opera orchestras and performed with a number of other orchestras across the country, including the Alabama Symphony, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the Britt and OK Mozart Festival orchestras. Performance highlights include appearances as soloist with the Tulsa Philharmonic and at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage with Terra Voce. A recipient of multiple awards and prizes, Elizabeth was named a winner of the National Flute Association’s Dissertation Competition, finalist with Terra Voce in the NFA Chamber Music Competition, and 2nd Runner-up in the Myrna Brown Young Artist Competition. Her artistic pursuits with Terra Voce include performance of multi-cultural and traditional musical styles on a copy of the Rudall & Rose 8-key simple system flute. She recently joined the Youth Orchestras of Central Virginia Board of Directors. Elizabeth holds the Doctor of Music degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.  www.terravoce.com
